Next morning he is rebuked and taunted by his wife Munni for being so careless in performing his duty

Highlights of the story January night

• The story depicts the situation of tenant farmers of village during the British period.
• The chief character Hulk who was in debt due to which he is unable to buy a blanket.
• Munni wife of Hulk wanted him to earn more so that they can have all the needful things.
• Both of them were annoyed with the landlords who used to come and abused them for not repaying the debts.
• Zebra the dog of Hulk was very loyal and he is always there with him.
• Most part of the story describes about the cold dark and shivering night of January month which halku has spent in the field without any blanket.
• The attack of nilgai at the field and growing crops are the difficulties which halku and Munni had to face.
• Munni want Halku to leave the tenant farming and start working as a labour so that they can at least have something for them.
• The story of January night shows the condition of poor farmers and their courage to survive in all the odd situations.
