Earthworms are termed as the friend of farmers due to following reasons:-
1> Earthworm increases the fertility of soil by increasing the amount of air and water that gets into the soil due to pores created by them which facilitates aeration as well as increases seepage.
2> They bring down organic matter from the upper most level of soil and mix it with the lower level of soil which increases nutrient availability to crops.
3> Their activities cause fragmentation of the dead organic matter resulting formation of humus which increases fertility and water holding capacity of soil.
